Surly Beer Hall Mural

Surly Beer Hall Mural Sketch

Minneapolis is home to one of the best breweries in the country, Surly Brewing Co. I'm a long time fan and patron of the brewery and have had the pleasure of creating numerous pieces of art for the brewery and its beer. Turman partnered with one of Surly's head brewers, Josh "Jawsh" Lemke, who started his career as an aerosol artist to create a massive mural inside Surly's Destination Beer Hall.

This mural welcomes beer hall guests and helps to tell the story of the Power of the Pint. Surly's owner, Omar Ansari, with the help of other Minnesota breweries helped to change an old and out-dated Minnesota law that prohibited breweries from selling their beer inside their buildings. I worked on artwork for the original Power of the Pint campaign and took the mural opportunity with Lemke to tell the story on a much bigger scale with bright, bold colors and dynamic gestures. The mural depicts elements from the process of brewing beer to pouring and serving beer, to celebrating with clinking glasses in front of the Twin Cities and Minnesota's capital building.
