This is a rare print of mine. I love this print. A lot of drawing with a brush and ink when into this art. I made this piece in 2011 when I wasn't working so tightly in a digital way. I'd draw each layer of color separately, scan them into Photoshop and then start laying out the final image and coloring it.
The backstory on this print was that it was originally created for the a show that Artcrank was hosting at the Interbike show in Las Vegas in 2011.
Interbike used to be the huge bicycle industry trade show where all the major players in the bike world would come and show off their new fancy $h!t. It was a spectacle and the new products that were debuted every year were always magical and pushed the industry in new direction.
Number 1 is a tongue in cheek approach to the cycling industry. The concept behind this print is that even with all the new bike-industry fancy-dancy stuff coming out every year, the bicycle itself still remains number 1. It's the reason we all love bikes. I still have my first Schwinn and I love it just as much as the day I got it. This art reflects that respect to history. Ok, enough talk, let's ride!
